Golf membership at World Golf Village, and what the club actually publishes.

Every King & Bear showing ends with the same question: does the house come with the golf? It does not, here or anywhere in Northeast Florida with one Ponte Vedra exception. This page explains how World Golf Village membership works from the club’s own pages, what it includes, what it costs to play without it, and why I do not print a dues table the club itself does not publish.

One club, two courses

World Golf Village golf is one membership with access to two championship courses: the King & Bear, which opened in 2000 as the only course co-designed by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus and runs through the gated King & Bear neighborhood, and the Slammer & Squire, the Bobby Weed design named for Sam Snead and Gene Sarazen that opened in 1998 beside the former Hall of Fame. Both are public-access resort courses that also sell memberships, which is the structural difference from Ponte Vedra Beach’s private, member-owned clubs: a World Golf Village member shares the tee sheet with resort and daily-fee play, and in exchange pays a fraction of a private club’s entry.

By the club’s own membership page, members get both courses, priority tee times, complimentary range balls, unlimited use of both practice facilities, and a calendar of member tournaments, couples events, junior clinics and social nights. What the page does not carry is a price: membership categories, initiation and dues are provided by the membership office on request, and the public rate page lists daily play on the King & Bear at $79 to $249 per player including cart and range balls, priced dynamically inside a 30-day booking window. The rule that governs everything: the membership is not the deed

A King & Bear, Turnberry or Heritage Landing home carries a village HOA (King & Bear listings report about $650 a quarter, which covers the gate and the grounds, not the golf) and in some villages a CDD line on the tax bill. The golf membership is a third, separate contract with the club, and it does not transfer with the house unless the club says so in writing at the time. Builders and listings have at times advertised initiation promotions tied to a home purchase; treat any such offer as the club’s current promotion, dated, and confirm it with the membership office before it changes your offer price.

For a buyer who golfs, the honest comparison across the county is total monthly cost of the golf life: HOA plus any district plus club dues plus the course you will actually play. Against Ponte Vedra Beach’s clubs, where initiation alone can be a six-figure equity deposit, World Golf Village is the value side of that comparison; against a daily-fee golfer with no membership, the question is simply how many rounds a year make the dues pay. Why I do not publish the fee table

Competitor sites print initiation and dues for this club; the club itself does not. A number copied from a 2023 listing remark is worse than no number when you are modeling a purchase, because dues move with the season, the category and the promotion. What I do instead: I call the membership office for the current schedule in the week you are deciding, get it in writing, and put it in the monthly math next to the HOA, the tax line and the roof age. That is the number you can rely on.

The part nobody tells you

The King & Bear is a resort course that sells memberships, not a private club that admits them. That cuts both ways: the entry is a fraction of Ponte Vedra Beach’s and the course is one of the best in the region, but the tee sheet is shared and the club’s terms can change with the operator. The buyers who do best here are the ones who priced the home on the house and the location, treated the membership as a yearly decision rather than an asset, and asked the club for this year’s schedule in writing before closing.

This is the work I do every week. Buying in King & Bear or anywhere in World Golf Village to golf? I will get the club’s current membership schedule in writing, pull the HOA and the parcel’s tax line, and put the whole golf life into one monthly number before you offer.

Common questions

Does a King & Bear home include golf membership?

No. The village HOA covers the gate and grounds; golf membership is a separate contract with the World Golf Village club and does not transfer with the house unless the club confirms it in writing. Promotions tied to a purchase have existed; confirm the current one with the membership office.

How much is World Golf Village golf membership?

The club does not publish categories, initiation or dues online; the membership office quotes them on request. Public play on the King & Bear is listed at $79 to $249 per player with cart. I get the current schedule in writing for any buyer who is deciding.

King & Bear or Slammer & Squire?

Membership covers both. The King & Bear (2000, Palmer and Nicklaus) is the longer, more demanding course that runs through the gated neighborhood; the Slammer & Squire (1998, Bobby Weed) is the friendlier resort layout beside the former Hall of Fame. Members and daily-fee golfers share both tee sheets.

Is the club private?

No. Both courses are public-access resort courses that also sell memberships with priority tee times and practice privileges. That is why the entry cost sits far below Ponte Vedra Beach’s private clubs, and why the tee sheet is shared.

Want the golf life priced for a specific home?

The club’s current schedule in writing, the HOA, the tax line and the roof age, in one monthly number.
