There is a variety of housing options available and new construction homes are at the top of the list for many individuals. However, this type of housing may not be ideal for everyone. Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of buying a newly built home in Jacksonville.

Customization: If you design the home, you can choose what features and characteristics you desire. You can build the house according to your lifestyle needs and eliminate features that you don’t want.

New Appliances: You will have peace of mind that all the appliances and fixtures in the home are new. This means you should encounter few problems and you will have several years before any upgrades are needed. Plus, you can enjoy the latest technology and many energy-saving options.

Less Maintenance: When the home is newly built, there are fewer maintenance and repair projects that are needed. While you will still likely have a to-do list for projects around the house, they won’t contain many maintenance tasks.

Move-In Ready: You won’t have a long list of projects to complete when you move into the home. You can move in and immediately turn the house into a home.

Cost: Newly constructed homes can have much higher price tags than an older home. These price tags can be even higher if you choose to upgrade certain features or areas in the home.  Plus, there is less room to negotiate during the home-buying process. Very rarely will you receive a lower home price.

Long Major Project List: Depending on when your home was built, there may be several large projects you want to complete to improve the value of the home and for convenience. For example, some builders may not finish the basement to keep the purchase price low. You may also need to install the landscaping or outdoor amenities such as a sprinkler system, pool, patio, etc. All of these features can be expensive if you are not prepared for them.

Be Mindful of Quality: Before you hire a builder or are considering a newly-built home, you must do your research and learn all you can about the builder. Are other homeowner’s happy with the final results? Do they cut corners to finish the job quickly or to reduce costs? You want to ensure you receive the highest of quality to prevent problems later down the road.
