What’s a Florida city without ice cream shops? Jacksonville has some of the best ice cream in the country, but what’s the best of the best?

Sweet Pete’s

A very popular candy store that offers the best of everything sweet, Sweet Pete’s is a fabulous place to get your ice cream fix. Their ice cream is house made and so are the toppings, like the salted caramel sauce. Sweet Pete’s is set up like an old time soda shop, so not only do you get some of the best ice cream, you can do it in a nostalgic setting.

Kilwins

Another delicious candy shop in Jacksonville, this place is always jammed with customers. Some of their flavors include:

·         Raspberry sorbetto

·         Pistachio

·         Rum Raisin

·         Mackinaw Island Fudge

Get yourself a scoop card and your 10th one is free.

Dreamette

Billing themselves as Florida’s #1 ice cream shop, Dreamette has been open since 1948! This old fashioned ice cream shop has soft serve ice cream and shakes that are “to die for”. Bring your cash and expect to stand in line, but it will be well worth it. Not only is their ice cream delicious, it is inexpensive and you can opt for a traditional banana split.

Three FX Ice Cream and Waffles

This made-to-order ice cream shop has something for everyone, even those who can’t eat dairy! You start by choosing your base, of which they have milk and non-dairy options. You then choose a flavor and mix-ins. They make the ice cream right in front of you and put it in a waffle bowl at no extra charge. Some great flavors include green tea, nutella, taro, strawberry banana and more. Customers talk about the unique experience to be had at Three FX and that although it isn’t ice cream, the taiyaki is a must-try.

Sweet Theory Baking Co.

This special spot is actually a gluten-free and vegan bakery that serves gluten-free and non-dairy ice cream, all made in-house in their small and cozy shop. The carmalized pineapple and coconut ice cream is a favorite, and so are the donuts (get one with your ice cream).

Bruster’s Ice Cream

With a very large variety of flavors and huge banana splits, this walk up shop has homemade ice cream with fresh made waffle cones. If you can’t choose between the many flavors, get some free samples from their very helpful staff. Some of the best flavors include pistachio, Boston cream pie and cinnamon. Even better, bring your dog for their FREE ice cream with peanut butter and a dog treat on top! They’ll be begging you to come back regularly (not that you’ll need persuading).
