Jacksonville has a long history and has come a long way from its population of 350 residents in 1840. Historic homes abound here and if you are in the market for a heritage home, Jacksonville is definitely the spot to find one.

Springfield

Close to downtown Jacksonville and bordered by Hogan’s Creek, this beautiful neighborhood highlights the city’s history nicely. Once named the #1 comeback neighborhood in the South, it was recently gentrified and is a family-friendly place with shops, restaurants and parks. The homes in this area are large and beautifully restored, like this 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom beauty at 1333 Silver Street.

Beaches/Intracoastal West

Incorporated in 1920, this almost 100-year-old neighborhood is in close proximity to the best beaches in Jacksonville and has some great shopping and dining. Many locals find it quiet and friendly and homes don’t stay on the market long here. This home was built in 1962 and is perfect for a growing family PLUS.

Mandarin

You’ll be surrounded by history in this historical neighborhood, close to the St. John’s River. With magnificent oak trees, easy access to the rest of the city and large, spacious homes, this is a spot that you’ll want to put on your home search list. This home on a 2-acre lot was built in 1963, so while not completely historical, it is surrounded by other older homes. It also has an indoor pool.

Avondale

One of the most popular neighborhoods in Jacksonville, it has charming older homes from the 1800s, with beautiful architecture and many of the homes are restored to their former glory. With shops and restaurants, this neighborhood holds many markets and festivals so there is a really great neighborhood feel. Built in 1918, this historic Avondale home has many modern upgrades and room for the entire family. This Colonial Revival home has such amazing curb appeal and a beautiful private garden.

Jacksonville is so filled with history and older homes, you won’t want to add any new or modern homes to your search list. The older homes are filled with character, with larger lots, closer access to the water and they are spacious!
