A Jacksonville lawyer that tries to avoid litigation
Who would have thought an attorney would ever have uttered these words – “litigation is not an effective way to resolve disputes”. That was the opinion of Mitch Legler, legal counsel for Jacksonville Landing owner and property developer Toney Sleiman. For Mr Legler, nothing is more expensive than the sounds of lawyers sharpening their pencils, whipping out legal pads and preparing for battle. The only casualty of this war is the client’s checkbook while the only victors are the lawyer’s egos.
Legler has a good reputation to stand by such comments. His legal experience goes back nearly four decades but he apparently tries to avoid litigation until all other possible methods have been tried, tested and exhausted. That may be good news for Mr Sleiman if his dispute with Mayor John Peyton over the Landing parking spaces becomes even more protracted.
