When size DOES matter to local residents
It used to be that building higher was fashionable. After all, the higher the floors, the higher the profits for the developers. But not anymore. Now residents are trying to say that big is NOT good for everyone.
Plans for high-rise condos, such as the San Jose Boulevard and the Commander apartments in Avondale, are again making Jacksonville residents protest to the council and to builders. People are concerned that the high-rise buildings would not fit into the neighbourhood.
So the council are suggesting zoning solutions as well as a moratorium on any new rezoning requests on buildings higher than 35 feet. This would stay in effect until the middle of next year.
