Jacksonville Mayor has a dream
It may take a decade for the plans to become reality but the Jacksonville Mayor is determined to press ahead anyway with preliminary ideas to modernise downtown.
The plans include a pedestrian-friendly area with improved public access to both riverwalks as well as maintaining ownership of the Jacksonville Landing. This marks a U-turn in the decision to allow Jacksonville Landing Investments LLC to make improvements to the Landing and build a parking garage, after members of the community voiced their disapproval.
The plans also include the possibility of a two-way road in Main Street, the removal of ramps on the Main Street bridge and a Harbor Town on the Southbank with shops, restaurants and wide open spaces.
